Working with Survivors of Rape and Sexual Assault

This is a full-day interactive training course for practitioners from a range of services/disciplines which aims to increase understanding of rape and sexual assault and explore effective ways of supporting survivors.

Course objectives:

Consider the legal definitions and broader socio-cultural context of rape and sexual assault, including societal attitudes and overview of legal process

Explore impacts of rape and sexual assault

Look at how to respond to disclosures of rape and sexual assault

Explore effective ways of supporting rape and sexual assault in practice, including role play work, consideration of case studies and sign-posting/referral information.

Consider vicarious trauma and self-care

Learning outcomes:

Increased awareness and understanding of the prevalence and impacts of rape and sexual assault

Be able to respond to disclosures of rape and sexual assault with increased confidence

Increased knowledge of what survivors of rape and sexual assault might need from practitioners in a supportive role
