This resource is for all P1 teachers and we would like to work with any schools who have not used the materials and require support.
POLAAR is a resource that is designed to help P1 teachers identify and assess children who are most at risk of developing later difficulties with reading and writing. It includes an Early Literacy Environment Assessment which can be used by the teacher to assess the learning environment being provided for all children. In addition it provides observational assessment that can be used to gather information when there are concerns about an individual child’s progress. POLAAR as it is based on a staged model of ‘observe-action-observe’ which helps identify the most effective intervention to take at classroom and child levels.
