Numeracy Academy Training – 2nd Level

This is a course for staff who have previously attended a Numeracy Academy

Numeracy at Second Level

This is a course for primary practitioners

The aims of the course are:

  • To develop a knowledge of the conceptual development of children from first into second level numeracy
  • To develop knowledge of the Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning (SEAL), and how to continue these key skills beyond the facile child (end of first level)
  • To examine quality experiences, tasks and contextualised learning that will support children in their continued development
  • To examine the development of key skills in numeracy as children move onto second level
  • to engage with current research and reading

The course will cover:

  • Current research in numeracy and links with classroom practice
  • The Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning (SEAL) and how these develop beyond first level
  • Linking previous learning in numeracy with second level expectations
  • Classroom organisation
  • Quality learning activities, resources and experiences, including opportunities to share good practice with colleagues

This course is over two sessions. Between the sessions participants will be asked to:

  • Undertake reading
  • Put their learning into practice in their own setting
  • Write a reflective journal

This work will link to Professional Update and could also link to a practitioner enquiry.

The sessions dates are:

4.30pm-6.30pm  on Thursday 26th October, Thursday 16th November & Thursday 30th November at Ormiston Primary School.

Participants must attend all three sessions
