All learners following the Curriculum for Excellence courses in S1 – S3 have recently undertaken an assessment. Please make sure you speak to your child about their results – and encourage them to ‘reflect and correct’ where appropriate. If you have any questions about this, then please contact Mrs Clubb
The S5/6 Prelims at all levels were on Tuesday 15th January, and these will be returned before the February break to help learners start a focussed revision for the final exams. Learners should all be aware that they also have to complete their NABs and that learning will start again at a quick pace straight after the exam leave. Higher and Intermediate 2 courses have both got 3 NABs which are an important part of the courses, and need to be passed before the course can be passed. All senior courses will continue to be assessed with more ‘exam style’ questions so please talk to your son/daughter about this and make sure that they are using these assessments to aid learning.
S4 learners have all completed their prelims in December. These have already been marked and returned, and this should prompt action in the form of a workable revision timetable. Please see your individual teacher if you need more support with this.
Revision classes are available within the department at various points throughout the week so please speak to your class teacher with more details.
Just before the Easter holiday our S2 classes participated in the Easter Egg Challenge. This involved the students working alone or in teams to create a new form of packaging for a well-known Easter Egg. The designs and reports were judged and some of the entries are below. In Ms Sweeney’s class the students presented their designs to the Dragon’s in a Dragon’s Den style production supported by Ms Fowkes from the Drama department.

Congratulations to all S1 students who took part in the World Maths Day on Wednesday 7th March. This involves playing numeracy games on the internet against other similar aged students all around the world.
The competition between the classes was great and saw challengers from China, Canada, Mexico… and North Berwick!!
If you have your user name and password then you can log on below and keep competing for the next few days.
On Monday 5th December, all S3 students took part in the BP Maths Roadshow.
Visiting specialists from BP lead a session on Trading with Oil. Determination, respect and excellence were at the heart of each trading team, which are 3 of the 7 Olymipian values. Learners also saw how these principles can also contribute to success in business.
Each team of 4 students had to buy and sell barrels of oil, considering external factors influencing supply and demand, and therefore predicting the rise and fall of costs.
Well done to all those who were involved, and thank you to BP for their help in staging the Roadshow.
