Update 21st April 2017

Please note that there is no school transport on Friday afternoons and during the In Service Day on 22nd May (RMPS Higher and N5 exam). Anyone requiring transport at these times should contact the school office to make arrangements by Tuesday 2nd May.

SQA Timetables

Individualised timetables were given out to S4-S6 students this week.  Students have been asked to note that the start and finish times may differ from the formal timetable published by the SQA.  Any student who loses their individualised timetable can check the examinations noticeboard each day.

S4 students have been given information about their preparation for their forthcoming examinations.  This included remembering to:

  • check their time and location of their examination and seat number
  • arrive in plenty of time for their examination
  • bring all of their required materials: pen, pencils, calculator, dictionaries etc.
  • either not bring a mobile phone or hand it in to the school office
  • contact the school immediately if unwell and obtain a medical note from the doctor if unable to sit the examination
  • behave in an exemplary fashion

S4-S6 Text Books

Please can S4-6 students return all textbooks to the library before Friday 28th April (next Friday). Students on study leave who require accessing any of their subject textbooks prior to the examination can borrow the textbooks through the librarian in the normal way up to the day of the examination.

S1-S3 Outstanding Library Books

Those students with outstanding books are requested to return them as soon as possible as they will be required by other students. Our librarian has agreed an amnesty where textbooks have not been returned by their lending date, however, this will only apply until 31st May.

Study Leave for S6 Students

We have agreed with S6 students that their last official day in school will be Friday 28th April.  On this day there will be a variety of activities, including the Leavers’ Ceremony and Concert, to celebrate their time at Dunbar Grammar School.   Letters were given to students before the Easter break: Leavers’ Ceremony Letter.  Any parents/carers of students who are leaving are requested to return the tear-off slip so that we can reserve a free ticket.  Students will be asked to collect reserved tickets from the office from Monday 24th April.

Study Leave – S5/6 Students

Study leave for S5 and S6 students starts on Tuesday 2nd May.

Any S5 and S6 student who wishes to study in school during this period should sign in and out at the school office for a minimum of half a day at the following times:

  • Lunchtime
  • End of school day

Any student signing in to study is required to wear full school uniform.

Please note students who are attending to sit examinations are not required to sign in or to wear school uniform.  Equally, they should not wander around the school between examination papers, unless they have arranged a meeting with a member of staff.  Please note also that members of staff may not be teaching in the same areas due to changes in timetable and development tasks, and it is, therefore, always advisable to make an appointment with members of staff in advance.  Letters will go home with students next week.

DGSC (Parent Council) Meetings

The next meeting is being held on Thursday 27th April at 7pm in G6, all parents and carers are welcome to attend.  Agenda can be read here.  There will be a presentation on the new exciting project ‘Marketplace’ at the beginning of the meeting.  Draft minutes from the meeting on 23rd March can be read here: Draft Minutes

Smartcards

All students have been issued with smartcards. These are required for the library, travel and the Bistro, in addition to offering fantastic discounts with many stores, companies and services, please see young.scot/discounts.

Applications for free replacement cards can be collected from the school office.  It would be very helpful to ensure that students bring cards with them to school every day.  It is especially useful when accessing the Bistro, as using the cards allows queues to move more quickly, particularly at morning break.

Well Done

To Edward Alsop who competed at the Scottish National Age Groups Swimming Championships in Aberdeen on 31st March – 2nd April.

Qualification for this meet is tough and to make the final top 10 is a huge achievement.  The East Lothian team of 32 came 11th in Scotland with 12 medals between them.

Edward did very well, improving his personal best times and setting 3 new East Lothian records:

  • 100m butterfly – Bronze
  • 400m Individual Medley – Bronze
  • 50m Butterfly – 4th
  • 1500m Freestyle – 5th
  • 200m Butterfly – 7th

Congratulations to Edward!

Dunbar Short Film Competition 2017 – The DAFTAs

The competition is free to enter and is open to everyone. Whether you are young or old, a budding film maker, have something important to say or just want to do something creative with your digital camera we would like to hear from you.
Your film can be on any subject and in any genre, it can be documentary or fiction, it can be live action or animation. You can film it on a camera, a tablet or even on your phone. The only restriction is that it has to be between 2 and 5 minutes long.

The deadline for entries is midnight Saturday 10th June.  The entries will be judged in three age categories: under 12, 12 – 16 years and over 16.  This year we are also introducing a Documentary category (all ages) and a Collaboration category where adults have had a substantial input in the creation of the film such as a teacher working with a class.

All the shortlisted films will be screened on Sunday 18 June as part of a special film event during Dunbar Civic Week and the final winners in each category will be announced.  The winners will each receive a DAFTA (Dunbar Amazing Film Talent Award) trophy and the winning films will be screened again later in the year as part of Dunbar Film’s regular programme.   You can find out more on our web site: https://dunbarfilm.org.uk/ or just Google Dunbar Film
