On Tuesday 3rd October just after 9am, a small fire was reported on the ground floor at Dunbar Grammar School, to which the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attended. The school was evacuated and all staff and pupils were accounted for. There were no reported injuries, and pupils and staff were allowed back into the building after the fire was extinguished.
The school will continue to investigate to see if there are any lessons which can be learned from this incident.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff for the support that was given during the evacuation and our students for their excellent behaviour.
The library has now been emptied and is well underway to being converted into 2 temporary English classrooms and an IT resource area. These will be ready for use after the October break. Please remember that there will be no access to the school for students or staff from the lane onto Belhaven Road and the entrance from Lammermuir Crescent until further notice.
More information can be read here: Expansion Page
A pack went home with all students last week containing a school closure form, a mandate form for the School Council 200 Club, a form for completion if a weekly newsletter is requested and an Annual Data Check form which is required to be checked by parent/carers, updated as appropriate, signed and returned by Tuesday 24th October.

We celebrated the European Day of Languages (26th September) with a QR code treasure trail around school. Well done to 1C6, our Junior winners and Olivia Laird and Emily Reid, our Senior winners. They listened carefully to identify the languages heard.
Congratulations to our S3 German beginners classes and our National 5 German classes, who competed against schools around the world in the VocabExpress Championships online. Their vocabulary learning efforts earned us a place on the leader board for German – 11th out of all the schools taking part. Fantastisch! Well done also to the students who earned us points in other languages. We had students competing in French, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin and Latin!
DGS S1 Interhouse Sport Competition Gets Underway
On Tuesday 3rd October over 190 S1s took to the playing fields for the S1 inter-house Boys Rugby and Girls Hockey competitions.
With some great skills on display, youngsters represented their houses brilliantly wearing the house colours and really promoting the spirit of the house competitions!
Well done to Lauderdale, the victorious team in the hockey competition and Winterfield, winners of the rugby.
Huge credit must go to DGS Young Ambassadors, Olivia Rapson, Anique Burke, Catriona McPheat and Blythe Hardy who spent a great deal of time organising the event and recruiting volunteers to help. Thanks also to the 29 other senior students who led the classes and refereed / umpired on the day.
The school runs teams for both S1 hockey and S1 boys rugby, with an East Lothian girls rugby squad also available. Any new youngsters wishing to get involved, please come and see Calum in the PE department or email firstname.lastname@example.org
