Visit to John Muir’s Birthplace

As part of our work on the John Muir Award, 5B are visiting his birthplace in Dunbar on Thursday, 18th May. We will be leaving school at 9:15am and returning here by 1:00pm. The children will all need a packed lunch. School uniform should be worn please.

The afternoon of the 18th is our sports day. Sports kit should be in school ready for changing before going over to Neilson Park. It would be good for everyone to have a drink to take with them (water please).

Golf!

Last term we were learning how to play golf. We had several lessons practising different types of golf swing. On Wednesday we walked over to Haddington Golf Club where our golf development officer, Kate, had set up a mini course for us. We had to try to play to par. This allowed us 3 strokes for each golf target. Kate had arranged the course on the practice ground. We had a lovely afternoon and really enjoyed the challenge of playing the game.

Everyone received information about further golf coaching. Golf is great fun and hopefully some members of our class will follow this up.

Thank you to Mrs Arnold – our coach, Kate Green, Mr Adamson, Mrs Clark, Mrs Horsburgh and Haddington Golf Club.

Releasing the fish

Our fish have been released into the River Tyne. We are sad to see them go but have really enjoyed seeing them develop from eggs to fry.

Everyone was given a bag with some fish. Some of us were a bit anxious that the bags might burst or that we might drop them. They all got to the river safely though! Phew!

We had a release ceremony planned and it all went smoothly – banners, signs, a lifecycle story, a poem and also a ‘rap’. Thank you to the adults who came along to join in with this event.

Amy took the fish into the river. She had to release them slowly to allow them to become used to the colder water. It all went well although one or two seemed reluctant to leave the bucket.
