Pupils can choose to have either a school lunch or bring a packed lunch from home. School meals are prepared by the school’s own kitchen, and served in the dining hall beginning with P1 – P3. The other classes follow a weekly rota of being “first in the queue”. Pupils can choose soup and a main meal or main meal and dessert. The meals are accompanied by a selection of breads, salad and a choice of milk or water. Supervision is by dining room supervisors and a member of the teaching staff. Meals cost a fixed price of £1.90 for P4-7, which is paid to a catering assistant in the dining hall. Pupils should bring the correct money daily in a named purse or wallet. Tables are set aside in the Dining Hall for children who wish to bring a packed lunch.
If opting for a school meal, at registration in the morning children will indicate whether they are having a main meal (blue band), the vegetarian option (green band) or a baked potato (yellow band). These colours correspond with the colour coding printed on the menu. Please take time to discuss with your child what they might like so that they are in a position to make a decision as soon as they arrive at school. They will then be issued with a band of an appropriate colour and the kitchen will cook sufficient quantities of each meal to ensure that no one is disappointed. Children must not change bands with anyone else as they will be given the meal which corresponds with their colour.
The new spring/summer menu starts on April 24th, 2017. The menu consists of a choice of 2 hot main meal options (includes a vegetarian choice), a filled baked potato option and a dessert. Free bread, salad and a cold drink is available with every meal. This menu is available Monday–Thursday with a packed lunch option available on Friday.
As you know there is a Scottish Government initiative whereby all P1– P3 pupils can have a free school lunch. Monday– Thursday is the usual menu (available on the school website) and a packed lunch is available by arrangement to take away on a Friday.
