National Youth Orchestras of Scotland – Jazz Applications

The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) is delighted to announce that its Jazz Applications for 2018 are now open.

Applications are invited from vocalists and instrumentalists aged between 12 and 25 with an enthusiasm for jazz who would like to perform at the highest national level. We would be delighted if you could pass this information on to any interested parties and display the attached A4 leaflet in your music department or building.

Our guidelines for the appropriate standard are as follows:

NYOS Jazz Summer School (aged between 12 and 21): Vocalists and instrumentalists who are comfortable on their instrument and share an enthusiasm for jazz. We welcome all levels to this course, including young people with less experience but who are keen to learn more and develop.

NYOS Jazz Access (aged between 13 and 17): Proficient vocalists and instrumentalists with some experience of improvising.

NYOS Jazz Orchestra (aged between 14 and 25): Vocalists and instrumentalists at minimum ABRSM Grade 6 or equivalent and MUST be a competent/experienced improviser.

NB: Qualification is a guide only and not essential

Applicants need only complete one application form to be considered for all NYOS Jazz courses.  Following application, students will be invited to submit a recorded audition. If successful at the audition stage, applicants will be offered a place in a specific NYOS Jazz ensemble.

All information is available on our website. Students should submit their application by Friday 20 October to be considered for one of Scotland’s national youth jazz orchestras in 2018.

We have been lucky enough to be able to enter a team into each of these events in the past and we hope to offer something similar in 2017.
