Thanks to the generous parents and carers signed up to the PTA Monthly Prize Draw, the PTA presented the school with a cheque for £2,000 at the recent Christmas Concert. This brings the total donated this year to the vital Library Project up to £4,000. Research by The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development found that reading for pleasure at the age of 15 is the most important indicator of the future success of a child – and improving literacy is one of the Head Teacher’s primary objectives this year. Already we are seeing the benefits of this investment in a renewed enthusiasm for reading amongst pupils -the school librarian reports an increase in the number of students visiting the library and borrowing the new books. A further £2,500 is needed to complete the transformation of the school library. Thanks to the PTA’s generous donation, we are delighted that many new books have been added to the school library collection and are now available to borrow.
Thanks also to those pupils, teachers, parents and carers who offered suggestions for the new reading material.
The PTA have been working hard to fundraise for the school and, at the recent Spring Concert in March, the staff and pupils were delighted to receive two cheques totalling £5,000 from the PTA. £3,000 will go towards paying for the S1 trips to the Highland Show at Ingliston as well as other much-needed items for which the school has no budget. The £2,000 cheque is the first instalment towards the £6,500 library project which aims to buy new books and equipment for the school library – this money was raised entirely by the PTA Monthly Prize Draw. We’ve a long way to go to reach this fundraising target, so please join the draw if you haven’t already done so. And support your PTA by getting involved, buying tickets for events, donating prizes for raffles, helping with teas/coffees at big events. The PTA is fun and sociable and we would love to have new members on board. To get in touch email email@example.com Continue reading PTA Update
