Recognising Lines of Symmetry in 2-D Shapes

As part of our Learning Outcome: I can illustrate the lines of symmetry for a range of 2D shapes and can apply my understanding to create and complete symmetrical pictures and patterns”, (2-19a), we have been looking at some of the flags from countries taking part in the 2012 Olympics, to see how many lines of symmetry they have. We worked in groups to make a poster, showing our findings.  We reported back to let each other know how we got on and tried to guess which countries the flags represented.

We found so many flags have no lines of symmetry, including our own!
Here is a fun Symmetry activity to try.  Click on the picture to take you to the website.
