PRIMARY 7 TRANSITION CHALLENGE DAY

On Wednesday of this week, the children participated in the Transition Challenge Day which gives them an opportunity to work with children from the other Primary schools who will form their first year in Preston Lodge High School. It was a successful day and all the children had an enjoyable time while meeting the challenges presented to them.

In the afternoon P7 had a fashion challenge. They worked in two teams and had 30 min to design and create a full set of clothing using paper. This was then modelled and judged by Mrs Weir and Ms Thomson from the school office.

This year, for the first time, all three Catholic Schools in this area were brought together for the one celebration with the Archbishop. Each School processed in with their School Banner and at the end of the celebration the children gathered with the Archbishop  for a group photograph during which the Archbishop presented their certificates as a group to the class teacher. These certificates were given to the children at our Friday Assembly.

DEANERY CATHOLIC EDUCATION MASS

On Thursday the four Catholic Primary Schools; St. Mary’s Haddington, St. Martin’s Tranent, St. Gabriel’s Prestonpans and Our Lady of Loretto Musselburgh,  came together to celebrate Catholic Education with a Mass in Our Lady of Loretto and St. Michael’s Parish Church in Musselburgh. Children from each of the schools participated in the Liturgy and there was a fabulous turn out of staff, parents and parishioners at the mass showing the three pillars of Catholic Education: Home, School and Parish.

Archbishop Cushley Visits St. Gabriel’s

At the end of the last academic year the children of Primary 6 (now Primary 7) wrote to Archbishop Cushley and invited him to come to the school to celebrate Mass and visit them in their class. They did this as part of their Pope Francis Faith Award.

On Friday 29th August 2014, Archbishop Cushley visited St. Gabriel’s to say Mass for the whole community and to visit the children of Primary 7. It was a wonderful occasion enjoyed by all the pupils, staff, invited guests and members of the local Parish Community.

The Staff, pupils and community; particularly the children of Primary 7, are deeply grateful to Archbishop Cushley for giving up his time to visit us at St. Gabriel’s. During his visit the Archbishop was presented with a cheque for £100 to be donated to his personal charity.
