Today, St Gabriel’s was filled with the sound of African Drumming. After lunch the whole school gathered in the gym hall for a demonstration of African Drum Music, Song and Dance given by the Kakatsiti Group from Ghana and who are touring Scotland at this present time.
The children were encouraged to join in with the beat and with the songs.
Then we were shown some African Dance and encouraged to have a go.
The Primary 4 class were then given a tutorial on drumming and dancing.
An enjoyable afternoon was had by all. Thank you to the Kakatsiti Drumming Group for visiting us and sharing your traditional music, song and dance with us.
On Tuesday the 21st April, children from Primary 4 were conferred with the Sacrament of Confirmation by His Grace, Archbishop Leo Cushley in Our Lady of Loretto and St. Michael’s Parish in Musselburgh.
This year, for the first time, all three Catholic Schools in this area were brought together for the one celebration with the Archbishop. Each School processed in with their School Banner and at the end of the celebration the children gathered with the Archbishop for a group photograph during which the Archbishop presented their certificates as a group to the class teacher. These certificates were given to the children at our Friday Assembly.
Congratulation to all the children who were confirmed!
On Thursday the four Catholic Primary Schools; St. Mary’s Haddington, St. Martin’s Tranent, St. Gabriel’s Prestonpans and Our Lady of Loretto Musselburgh, came together to celebrate Catholic Education with a Mass in Our Lady of Loretto and St. Michael’s Parish Church in Musselburgh. Children from each of the schools participated in the Liturgy and there was a fabulous turn out of staff, parents and parishioners at the mass showing the three pillars of Catholic Education: Home, School and Parish.
A big thank you to all the children, parents and staff who supported this important event.
