Please see information below from the British Council – Connecting Classrooms – CPD opportunity Feb 28th/ 1st March 2011 – Dunkeld
Dear Connecting Classrooms colleague,
This year Connecting Classrooms aims to provide professional development opportunities for teachers, school leaders and partnership co-ordinators in local authorities (or other co-ordinating bodies), to build capacity to introduce and integrate international working in schools. As part of this offer, we are offering an International Co-ordinators’ Course tailored to Scotland and Curriculum for Excellence. This course is being delivered in partnership with Learning and Teaching Scotland.
Applications are invited from those already involved in Connecting Classrooms or from those with an interest in getting involved.
The courses will be offered at the following venues:
Dunkeld, Perth and Kinross
Dunkeld House Hotel, Dunkeld
28/02/2011 – 01/03/2011
The course will run for two days, starting at 9.30 on the first day and finishing at 4.30 on the second day. The British Council will cover accommodation costs for one night and your meals.
Travel costs should be covered from your school budget. Please note that supply costs will not be covered.
I am writing to ask you to nominate someone from your Connecting Classrooms cluster, or someone who might be interested in applying for a Connecting Classroom partnership, to attend the two-day International Co-ordinators’ Course; it may be the most appropriate person to attend is a cluster co-ordinator, but it could be a lead teacher within the cluster or someone with a keen interest to get involved
Funding is available for one person per cluster to attend the course and we would like you to decide within your cluster who would be the most appropriate person to attend. Whoever is selected to attend the course should provide a brief summary on how they plan to share their learning with others in the cluster. It would also be helpful if you could nominate a second person in case spaces become available on the course.
If a Local Authority co-ordinator manages more than one cluster for the same or different regions, you should nominate one person from each of the clusters that you manage. On the Registration Form, you should state the specific cluster the participant is from and the region that they are partnering in order for us to tell that each cluster of schools is being represented.
The course will include content from a selection of modules – Communicating a Vision, Team Building and Motivation, International School Award, Life of the Project, Monitoring and Evaluation, Intercultural Dialogue, Embedding the results in the curriculum, and will allow existing partnerships to share best practice and will support new applicants in pursuing any ambition.
Benefits of taking part in the course include:
- The opportunity to further develop your know-how and expertise in managing international partnerships.
- The opportunity to meet and network with local schools and local authorities involved in Connecting Classrooms.
- The opportunity to meet Connecting Classrooms staff from the British Council and LTS.
Participants who took part in the pilot courses in the UK said that they had benefited from taking part in the course and gave the following feedback;
“It is a challenge to strive to deliver greater engagement in international work in my school but I have many new ideas about how I can try to bring this about. The course has provided excellent fuel to the fire which will drive the engine.”
“Thank you for the opportunity to have time to reflect on how I can move my school forward, deepening the embedding of internationalism.”
“The course was very engaging, fun, lively, anecdotal, entertaining, genuine, real acronyms and strategy work extremely useful to take forward and use for later staff development. Gave confidence to take ideas and work forward.”
