This week the children in P1/2 and P2/3 took over from Mrs Jamieson and I to become teachers for the afternoon! Each class made up a game and quiz and taught it to a pupil from the other class. P1/2 taught us all about symmetry while P2/3 taught them about Venn diagrams as part of their data handling topic.
We worked really hard and learned lots!
See P1/2’s website for pictures of the symmetry work we did!
Mrs Payne from the Youth Music Initiative came in to work with P2/ 3 this week. We had a fantastic time learning more of their brilliant singing games. We used instruments such as claves, a tambour and boomwhackers!
Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely holiday. This is a quick update about what we will be looking at this term in P2/3.
Maths and Numeracy – We will be learning our multiplication tables and practising counting forwards and backwards up to 100 starting at various numbers. We will also be learning about measurement and capacity and hope to get outside to do this on a big scale!
Literacy – We will be using traditional tales to learn new reading and grammar skills. We will also be predicting and sequencing using different stories. We will be doing Art and Drama around these stories. We will also be focussing on learning common words to improve our reading and spelling skills.
Science – We have chosen to look at forces and movement as our topic this term and will be learning about push and pull and electricity.
Health and Wellbeing – We are learning about being safe around electricity after our visit last term from Ginger who works for Scottish Power.
Gym – Our gym days are alternate Tuesdays with Mr Clelland – our first one was Tuesday 24th April and will be alternate weeks from then. We also have gym with Miss Kinsella every Thursday and alternate Fridays on the weeks we do not have Mr Clelland.
Music – P3 will be continue to work with Ms Trail on Wednesdays.
We are looking forward to a busy term working hard!
We have combined our learning in health and wellbeing and science to work on safety with electricity. We will be learning about electricity as a force and how important it is to be safe around it. We used balloons to show how we create static electricity and had fun using the static electricity to pick up our hair and pieces of tissue paper. We learned that the things in our school and at home use a different type of electricity to this.
We are continuing to become budding scientists in P2/3 and this week have begun to learn about forces. We have learned that everything needs to be pushed or pulled in order to move. We sorted different actions by miming and decided if we were pushing or pulling. We will be going on to think about how different variables affect the force we need to use. E.g gradient, surface texture, weight and size.
On Thursday last week PC Kelly Brown came to tell us all about how to keep ourselves safe. She reminded us about how important it is to know our addresses and telephone numbers – please keep practising at home!
