Ordering Numbers

We used the following game to help us order numbers within 100 today.
First, we put counters on the numbers using our 100 squares, then we wrote them in order on our whiteboards. Mrs Jamieson picked a name on a lollipop stick to choose someone to put the leaves on the caterpillar and see if we were right.
It was good fun!

(Parents, you will need to set the slider at the beginning of the game to set the number limits. I suggest 0 to 50 /0 to 100.)

We enjoyed finding out about this for whole class reading this morning.
We also enjoyed watching this short clip about sunflowers. The children might want to share it with you at home.

To help us with our linked writing, we have been practising patterns that must go from one side of the page to the other without stopping. We took advantage of the beautiful weather this afternoon and went outside to work. We made patterns with chalk on the paving slabs.

In maths last week and this week, we have been learning about big numbers – how to read them, write them and order them.

Primary 1 have made their very own colour coded 100 squares, which we can use to play games. We have also used “Splat Square” on the big board,

Another Muddy Monday for the Nursery and Primary 1 children! Today, we welcomed some of the children who will be joining Primary 1 next session from other nurseries. The P1 Buddies did an excellent job looking after them. 🙂
Our challenge from Esmerelda the Woodland Elf, was to use her colour charts to find things in the woods that matched them exactly. We also had time to make up our own recipes in the Mud Kitchen.

Primary 1 have been working VERY hard this week on their handwriting – they may have shown you how they can write their name with all the letters joined together! We have used chalks, water and paintbrushes, whiteboards and pencils to practise.
What do you think?

We did some science experiments this afternoon as part of Science Week.

Mrs Jamieson showed us this exciting video, then we tried the experiment ourselves.
This is something you might want to try at home too. You will need

  • a dish
  • milk
  • food colouring
  • a cotton bud
  • washing up liquid

Mrs Jamieson set us a challenge. We had to colour a paint by numbers picture……but she only gave us red, yellow and blue paint! We had to mix colours together to make green, orange and purple.
