As part of our Science Week, we took part in a science workshop this morning called “Little Giants.” It helped us to find out about bees – how they gather nectar and make honey. We also found out how bees help to pollenate flowers. We had great fun!
(Again, if you can’t see your child in these photos, they may have been working with Mrs Munro, so check the Nursery web page.)

Ezmerelda the Woodland Elf left us another letter today. She gave us some recipes from her recipe book to make, mats to make pictures and wildflower seeds to plant – a busy (and muddy) time in the woods with our Nursery Buddies this morning!

(The children were split into 2 groups – one group working with me and the other group working with Mrs Munro. If you can’t see your child in these photos, please have a look on the nursery webpage!)

Walk to School Week

We have been thinking about how we travelled to and from school today. We recorded the information on a vertical bar graph.

The Yester Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) gave the children a “Walk to School Challenge Booklet.” This should be completed over the week and sent back into school. The children can then get the reward stickers for the booklet and I will copy the certificate to put in their Achievement Book.

Reminders!

The children were given some letters home in schoolbags today.
A couple of important reminders for next week…

  • Muddy Monday! Please make sure your child comes to school dressed in clothes for playing in the woods. School clothes should be sent in bags/schoolbags. We will be getting dirty this week!
  • Walk to School Week/Science Week/Eco Week at Yester Primary – a busy time!
  • The children will be taking part in a science workshop on Monday with their Nursery Buddies.
  • We will be gathering information on how the children come to school each day. The ideal is walking/cycling/park and stride or the school bus. It would be great if you could support this.
  • The children can come to school dressed in green or an eco theme on Friday morning.

We enjoyed listening to another story from the Bible on Friday – Jonah and the Whale.
We used pens and water to create these wonderful watery pictures of the story.

This morning, we looked at a big box of vegetables…

We decided to write some instructions to make vegetable faces!  We thought we could take our instructions and box of vegetables down to Primary 2 and ask if they would like to make (and eat) vegetable faces with us.

After we designed our faces and wrote our instructions, we talked about eating together. We made place mats for our plates and made sure that we laid the cutlery correctly on the table!

We took everything down to the P2 classroom after lunch. First, we showed our friends how to wash their hands PROPERLY, then got to work. We read the instructions, then gathered our ingredients to make our vegetable faces.
The finished vegetable faces looked amazing!

The best part of the day….was eating the faces!

Recycling Homework

The children were given a note about homework today.

We have been looking at ways we reuse, reduce and recycle in our classroom. We want to show the other children in our school what we know about recycling. For homework, can you find 2 pieces of packaging that has the recycling sign on it and bring it into school?

It would be helpful if this could be done by Monday, 12th May.

Thanks!

We worked with our Primary 7 Buddies today. They came tou our classroom and helped us with our sounds. First, we taught them the songs and the actions that go with each sound and then they helped us to complete a sounds puzzle. The P7 Buddies were VERY impressed when we told them all about single sounds, diagraphs and blends!
