A couple of dates for your diary…

  • Monday, 1st September. Children in full days (8:45 – 2:55 Monday to Thursday, 8:45 – 11:50 Friday.)
  • The children will need a snack each day for break time and should bring a NAMED purse for school lunches or a NAMED packed lunch box. (We are planning to go for lunch a little earlier than usual next week to give the children …and dining staff….more time to eat lunch and get organised. Our P7 Buddies have very kindly offered to help us. We will be collecting the children from Mrs Kemp’s P1/2 class so all of P1 can have lunch together. Will try to get some good photos for you!)
  • We will have our first PE lesson on Monday. Please make sure your child has NAMED PE kit in school. I anticipate it will take longer to get changed than it will to teach the lesson….things can only get better!
  • The photographer from the “Courier” will be in school on Tuesday, 2nd August to take the P1 photograph. I will try to keep the children neat and tidy until he arrives!
  • On Thursday, 11th September, we will be having a Judo taster session.
  • School will be closed on Friday, 12th September and Monday15th September for the September Weekend holiday. 🙂

Children will be able to come to school and go home on the school bus from Monday, as long as they have a bus pass. I believe the children should carry these passes at all times.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES TO HOME TIME ARRANGEMENTS. A PHONE CALL TO THE OFFICE IS THE MOST RELIABLE WAY TO ENSURE THAT THE MESSAGE GETS PASSED ON. NOTES IN SCHOOLBAGS OR READING DIARIES CAN GET MISSED AND I LIVE IN FEAR OF SENDING A CHILD ON A BUS WITH NO-ONE AT HOME TO MEET THEM!

Can I also remind you that supervision after school is for bus children only? Parents are responsible for the safety and well-being of their child from 2:55 – 3:15 – something to be aware of if you need to collect an older child at the end of the day.

Polite Reminder….

Could I please ask you to check that you have returned behaviour agreement slips and home time arrangements to school? I need to make sure that I have the correct information before Monday to ensure your child gets home safely. Thank you.

Reading Buddies

Another busy morning in Primary 1!
Our Buddies from P7 came to join us to help us make books about Biff, Chip and Kipper. Mrs Jamieson is going to send them home in reading bags on Wednesday and Thursday. It would be great if you could support at home by asking the children to point to the pictures and say the character’s name.

We had a taster session for “fencing” this morning – lots of pirates in Primary 1!

There will be information in schoolbags tomorrow about fencing classes if your child is interested in joining.

Our First Reading Books

We started to learn to read today!

Some children got their first reading book! (If your child did not get theirs today, they will get it tomorrow – there wasn’t enough time to teach all the groups today!) I’m sure everyone will enjoy reading their first story at home!

For parents….

Everyone will get a reading bag to store all their bits and bobs.

Inside the reading bag you will find some tips and ideas to help your child read at home as well as a copy of their first set of keywords. Keywords should be part of the nightly reading routine. There are some ideas for games to play on the sheet.

The reading diary is our main form of communication between home and school. It will detail the tasks I would like you to carry out at home. Please write a little comment to let me know how you got on!

Most importantly – the reading book!

There should also be an “extended story” to go with each book until your child reaches stage 4. You should read the extended story to your child – any words printed in bold are the words your child should try to read from their reading book. There are no words to read in the first stage of books. (See notes included in bag!)

Please look after these exended stories. They should be returned in the reading bag along with the book. Please try not to fold them as the laminate will start to crack and peel away!

Hope you enjoy your first reading book! If you have any questions, please get in touch and I’ll to my best to answer them! 🙂

Sounds – s

Today, we worked with the P1 children in Mrs Kemp’s class to learn our first sound – letter s.

First we used some play dough to help us warm up our muscles in our hands. Dough Disco was great fun!
Next, we practised making patterns on our wipe baords. We had to make the pattern without stopping.
Last of all, we wrote letter s in our jotters.
Brilliant work Primary 1!

A huge apology….probably the first of many!

In the information on the website yesterday, it said school next week (Mon – Thurs) would be 8:45 – 12:15.

However, it should have said 8:45 – 12:00.

School on Friday is 8:45 – 11:55.

I’m so sorry if this has caused problems.

Welcome to the start of another exciting year in Primary 1! Please make sure you check this page several times each week as it will form the basis of communication between home and school. Look out for parent information, updates about what is happening in class, homework, dates and special events.

Lesley Dodds and myself are very much looking forward to seeing the children in the morning…….here is a sneaky preview of some of the activities we’ve laid out for them in Learning Areas!

Look out for some “first day at school” pictures tomorrow!
