The children have been working hard to learn more Signalong signs.

I will post a slideshow every couple of weeks or so, showing the signs that the children have been taught. Please encourage your child to demonstrate these signs and try to use them at home. Now we have learned more signs, the children are enjoying putting 2 or more together to make simple sentences.

Hope everyone had a lovely break last week.

A busy term…..

  • Apologies for blank/missing photos from our class website. This is an authority-wide issue, and it looks like the missing photos can’t be recovered. We have been assured that the problem has now been fixed, so any photos posted from now on should be visible. Fortunately, all our photopeach slideshows are safe!
  • Please make sure that PE kit is sent back into school. Our next PE lesson is on the first day back!
  • This week we will be finishing off our Autumn Challenges before beginning a new topic – Celebrations. This should lead us into December, Nativity and Christma
  • Mrs Christine Sharp will be working in Primary 1 this week. She is a qualified teacher, looking for some extra classroom experience to help her get back into teaching after a break.

Some dates for your diary.

  • Friday, 24th October – Parent Council Hallowe’en Disco, Mr Darrin Nightingale (Head of Education) to visit Yester Primary School
  • Monday, 27th October – Flu immunisations
  • Thursday, 30th October – working with Nursery Buddies
  • Wednesday, 26th November – themed lunch for St Andrew’s Day
  • Thursday, 27th November – Parent Council Christmas Fayre
  • Thursday, 11th December – Nursery to P3 Nativity (PM)
  • Wednesday, 17th December – Christmas Assembly (parents welcome)
  • Thursday, 18th December – P1-3 Christmas party (PM)
  • Friday, 19th December – end of term

We are also hoping to invite P1 parents to have school lunch with us. I will let you know this date as soon as it has been confirmed.

Please can I remind all parents that children should come to school dressed appropriately for the weather. A few children have come to school this week without coats.

Thank you.

We opened our second Autumn Challenge envelope today. Dinosaur Dan has asked us to make a non-fiction book about a hibernating animal. He also left us a short film to watch to help us.

We are very busy writing our non-fiction books – hopefully Mums and Dads will get to see the on Parents’ Night. We are going to read them to our P7 Buddies on Friday too.

This afternoon, we made model hedgehogs using playdough, pasta shapes, googly eyes tissue and paper plates. We are going to use the photos of them for the front cover of our books.

Autumn Paintings

Dinosaur Dan left us his last letter this week. He told us it was getting a bit cold for him because it was Autumn, and he wanted to go back to Dinosaur Land.
He did, however, leave us some envelopes with Autumn Challenges in them, which we will be opening and completing over the next few weeks.
Our first envelope asked us if we knew about Autumn colours. We decided that Autumn colours would be the colours we might see on the leaves at this time of year. The challenge also asked us to make a painting like Wassily Kandinsky’s, using Autumn colours!
We found out that Wassily Kandinsky was a Russian artist who painted a picture with lots of circles. We used Autumn colours to make paintings just like his. They look beautiful on our classroom wall. Make sure you look out for them at Parents’ Night!
