The Scottish Book Trust are keen to get some feedback from parents of P1 children on the books which were given out to children earlier this year and would really appreciate it if parents could complete a survey for this- link below. The closing date for completion of this is Friday, 27th February.

A date for your diary……
At the moment, Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 are working together to put on a ceilidh for the grown-ups!
It would be fantastic to see as many parents there as possible to join in the fun. The ceilidh is planned for Monday 9th March at 1:30.

On Thursday 29th January, we are having a special Burn’s Lunch at school – haggis, neeps and tatties!
All the children in school are also busy learning Scottish Poems or songs to perform as part of our celebration. The children in Primary 1 are going to recite “Wee Willie Winkie.”
We have spoken about the Scottish words used in the poem and who what Willie Winkie did. We drew lovely pictures to show this.

Great fun this morning at our school ceilidh!
Every class has been working very hard in PE learning lots of different Scottish dances. The children in Primary 1 and 2 did the Haymakers Dance and the Waterdown Reel. Even the teachers danced the Dashing White Sergeant – Mr Purves was very good at spinning us around!
This term we are going to be learning about stories from the Bible. We found out that the Bible is a special book for Christian people. The Bible has lots of stories in it.
The first story we listened to was “Noah’s Ark.” We watched this little cartoon to help us understand what happened in the story.
Next, we drew these fantastic pictures showing the animals going onto the Ark in twos.

Sorry – still no camera! I believe that it has been dispatched to the council IT department and will be with us shortly – fingers crossed.
Just in case you haven’t heard, an alien has landed in Primary 1!

He is currently sitting in a small space station in our classroom. He left us a letter explaining that he has been sent on a mission to find out facts about Planet Earth and he needs our help.
His first mission was to find out about the different seasons. There was a picture puzzle left in the space station for us to complete. We finished it today and gave it to the Alien, along with some alien drawings and stories. We hope he likes them!

This week, we got back to work quickly and have been learning all about addition.
We have been using counters, butterfly mats and a brilliant game called “Funky Mummy” to help us.
We used the counters and butterfly mats to lay out our calculations and recorded them horizontally on our whiteboards – and yes, your children are all using these very grown-up mathematical words!
For homework, you might want to try playing the Funky Mummy game. You will need to have some counters and perhaps make a butterfly mat(the children should be able to describe this, if not, just let me know.)
If you record any of the calculations, please send them into school to be put into Achievement Books.
Good Luck!

Welcome back to our third term in Primary 1. Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Year.
This term, we have lots of learning to do – addition, subtraction and telling the time! We might even have a visitor from outer space! Later in the term, there will be an opportunity for you to come and join us for an afternoon to find out what we have been learning. (More details to follow.)
I sent gym kit and gym shoes home at the end of term to be washed and checked. If you have not already done so, please can you send them back into school as soon as possible?
Unfortunately, our class camera is broken. A new one has been ordered but I wont be able to post any photographs until it arrives…….unless I can borrow one from another kind teacher!
