We joined our Buddies in Nursery for a visit from the Fire Service! They told us about fighting fires and how we can prevent them. We also got a shot of the hose!
Brilliant fun!

We had lots of fun designing, writing instructions for, making and eating vegetable faces!

First, we looked at different kinds of vegetables. We talked about their names and what we could use them for when we designed our faces.

Next, we drew designs and wrote instructions to make the faces.

We swapped our instructions with our Talking Partners to make the faces. The best bit was eating them afterwards!

A creative classroom in Primary 1!

We watched the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk.”

We talked about what we thought the Giant’s garden might look like. We thought it might have a pond, a bridge, some flowers and trees……and it would be magic!
We got to work making the magic garden.

We worked ALL MORNING!

Our Senses

We have been learning about our 5 senses today. We played a game on the big board to help us. The children wanted it to be put on the website so they could play at home….so here it is!

*The children will need an adult to play this game with them as the text is too difficult for them to read alone. The grown-up might like to change the wording a wee bit too!

Measuring

One of the challenges in our Body Books is to include measurements of our bodies so this week we are learning all about measuring.
We went outside to measure different parts of the playground. We used our hands and feet to do this.

When we looked at our answers back in the classroom, we noticed that all the answers were different! We decided this was because we all have different sizes of feet and hands. This was not a good way to measure!

Next, we used cubes that were all the same size to measure things. This time, our answers were the same.

Today, the Primary 6 children came to help us take measurements for our body books. They are learning about measuring too. We used tape measures and rulers to do this.

This week, we have been learning about the names of some of the organs in our bodies. We have also been finding out where they are inside us. We watched this little clip to help us.

We have also had fun putting “The Body” back together …

The children have been busy in Learning Areas making things to go into their Body Books – drawings at the easel, cutting out at the writing table and making skeletons using construction materials. Well done everyone!

DSCF0395Our last mission from the Alien!

We were very excited to have two scientists working with us this afternoon. They were called Jack and Billy. They put on a show called “Night and Day.” It was great fun to watch – some of us even got to take part. We learned about the Earth orbiting the sun and how different parts of the world have night and day at the same time.

Sorry – still no camera! I believe that it has been dispatched to the council IT department and will be with us shortly – fingers crossed.

Just in case you haven’t heard, an alien has landed in Primary 1!

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

He is currently sitting in a small space station in our classroom. He left us a letter explaining that he has been sent on a mission to find out facts about Planet Earth and he needs our help.

His first mission was to find out about the different seasons. There was a picture puzzle left in the space station for us to complete. We finished it today and gave it to the Alien, along with some alien drawings and stories. We hope he likes them!
