Over the next couple of weeks, our class are learning about symmetry.
This morning, we looked at our reflections and talked about about mirror images. We used the mirrors to discover what the other half of a butterfly would look like.
We cut some symmetrical shapes and marked the lines of symmetry. We also drew and coloured symmetrical designs on eggs.
Next, we coloured some symmetrical designs…..some of the were very challenging!
Well done Primary 1!

This week in maths, we are learning about displaying information. Today, we used pictures to help us show our favourite colour of teddies and our favourite vegetables.
A chart which uses pictures to organise information is called a “pictogram.”
Sorry – still no camera! I believe that it has been dispatched to the council IT department and will be with us shortly – fingers crossed.
Just in case you haven’t heard, an alien has landed in Primary 1!
He is currently sitting in a small space station in our classroom. He left us a letter explaining that he has been sent on a mission to find out facts about Planet Earth and he needs our help.
His first mission was to find out about the different seasons. There was a picture puzzle left in the space station for us to complete. We finished it today and gave it to the Alien, along with some alien drawings and stories. We hope he likes them!
We have a new camera!
The Alien left us another mission this week. He needed to send a message to space control at 8 o’clock but didn’t know what this meant. He asked us to find out how to tell the time and left us little clocks to make.

We loved making the clocks and used them to make different o’clock times. We left our clocks set to 8 o’clock and put them in the space basket for the alien.
We also enjoyed singing this song!
Elf on the Shelf left us a letter this morning. Santa was in a muddle trying to sort out the shapes of his presents. We had to colour the different shaped presents to help him. We learned that the proper word for a diamond shape is a rhombus, and that an octagon has 8 sides!
Elf on the Shelf also left us this little game to play….
In maths this week, we have been doing some Christmas Puzzles.
First, we had to make some drawings and count how many legs, ears and eyes were in the picture.
We also coloured in 9 snowmen…..but we were only allowed to use 3 colours and make every snowman different! We had to think very hard!

In Learning Areas, we have also enjoyed building a snowman on the Big Board. Follow the link to play at home too.

The Elf on the Shelf left us a letter today…
Dear Boys and Girls,
Santa needs to print more wrapping paper but the elves are so busy, they haven’t managed to finish it yet!
Can you finish the repeating patterns before the paper goes to the printing workshop?
Love from the Elf on the Shelf xxxx
We practised making repeating patterns of the grids then made some wrapping paper….
