Village Walk

Primary 2 had a very enjoyable and interesting walk around Gifford this afternoon as part of our My Community topic. We learned that the lime trees on The Avenue are more than 300 years old and are protected and that the area around the swings in the park used to be the village curling pond. We also found out about all the activities that are held for the Community in the Village Hall. We saw the old school and found out that a VERY long time ago(1830s) there used to be FIVE schools, ten carpenters, eight blacksmiths, four masons, four bakers, two millers, one watchmaker, one saddler and six pubs in the village!!

As part of our My Community topic, where we are learning what it means to be part of a group, we made a community tree in the classroom, showing all of our families and the school community. Next week, we are going to add to it after we go on our walk around the village on 18th March. Doesn’t it look splendid?!
