Our trip to Deep Sea World on Monday was a great success 🙂 Apart from Fraser’s nasty fall on the way into the centre, we all had a great day and learned lots of new facts about Sea creatures and amphibians. Our favourite parts of the day were going through the under-ground tunnel, watching the seals eating fish and performing tricks and of course, lunch! Please enjoy looking through our pictures.

Under the sea

Primary 2/3 are well into their new topic ‘water’ and seem to be enjoying learning about different oceans and seas. We have been discussing the Atlantic Ocean this week, what it’s like beneath the waves and the animals you may find in it! Did you know there are hills and valleys, just like there are above the surface!? We spoke about how cold and dark the water would be, deep down in the ocean and how difficult it would be to hear and see things. That’s not put us off though… We still wanted to explore!

Next week we’re moving to the Pacific Ocean and discussing food chains beneath the water.

Please keep an eye out for a ‘school trip’ letter in school-bags within the next few weeks.

I’m not sure what happened to Primary 2/3 on Thursday, but they were replaced in school with some very unusual looking characters! I wonder if you can recognise any of them!?

The characters seemed to enjoy their day at Yester, taking part in book based activities with Primary 1/2 and Primary 6.

Ella’s Wobble

Last week we took part in a Science investigation. We followed the story about Ella- who lost her voice. Ella went on a journey to find her voice and learned how sounds were made along the way. We spoke about the sounds that animals make, how echoes are made and what ‘pitch’ means. We then explored how sounds were made by making two different instruments. A huge thank you to Generation Science and Parent Council because we thoroughly enjoyed our session.

On Tuesday we had a ceilidh in school as part of our Robert Burns celebrations.
Every class performed a different dance to the whole school. Our dance was called ‘The Flying Scotsman.’ ‘The Flying Scotsman’ is a train.

The dance repeated itself over and over again. (Henry)
I enjoyed the dance. It was fun. (Hailey)
I liked the dance that Primary 5 did. They all went in and out in a circle. (Aran)
I enjoyed the ‘Banana splits’ in our dance. (James J)
I liked the Primary 1 dance. They moved in square shapes.(Murray)
I thought the Primary 4/5 dance was good. (Euan)
I liked watching my brother dancing with his class. (Joseph)
I enjoyed looping around the other people in our dance. (James B)
Our dance was good because it was easy to learn. (Sebastian)
I liked it in our dance when the top couple went to the top and back down again. (Joshua)
The Primary 6 dance was good because they were clapping in patterns and it wasn’t Scottish music. (Molly R)
The Primary 4/5 dance was really energetic! (Georgie)
I liked it when the boys in our class moved and then the girls did the same. (Max)
The Primary 7 dance was good. ‘Strip the Willow’ was really fast! (Isla)
The Primary 7 dance was good. I have danced ‘Strip the Willow’ before, with my Dad and I really liked it! (Bella)
I liked when we side-stepped up and down the lines. (Molly M)

Welcome back to another term Primary 2/3. I know that you all had a great Christmas break and were treated to lots of lovely gifts from Santa!

This term, we’re going to be busy looking at lots of different plants; how they grow, where they grow and what they need to stay alive as well as looking at lots of different countries and the different plants and flowers that grow there also.

I know lots of you were very interested in the ‘Venus Fly Trap’ so here is the link if you’d like to have another look at the amazing plant!

On another note, a reminder that the school has its yearly visiting theatre performance on Monday so please return any outstanding forms by then. We will also continue with our ‘run a mile’ activity on Friday mornings so children can come to school dressed in their sporting clothes.

Many thanks.

A taste of Spain

As part of our ‘Spain’ topic, Primary 2/3 researched the kind of food people from Spain eat. We spoke about all the fresh fruits Spanish people can grow that we can’t. We discussed ‘Paella’ and the way it’s served in a big pan where everyone round the table ‘help themselves.’
We then created our own Spanish menu and tasted each course. I wonder if you can work out what we had?

School Clothes

A plea… Can you please make sure that all clothing you send your child to school with has their name clearly displayed on it? Also, some children in class are missing school jumpers. Could you please spare 2 minutes of your time to check jumpers at home to ensure they don’t have a different child’s name inside. Many thanks.

Homework

Children should return home this evening with a plastic folder and homework book inside. There will be lots of different homework activities over the course of the year. Please check inside the green book to find out what the week’s homework is. This week, we’re concentrating on our handwriting. Please return all plastic wallets and books on Monday 14th September. Thanks.
