Building Foundations for the Future!

We have been very busy learning about Scotland and our Scots language. We made and participated in a variety of activities such as making saltire flags, reading Robert Burns poems, trying haggis and other Scottish treats.

During red and green group times children were practicing short poems and the English word for Scots words for example faw-fall and cairry-carry. The children found this funny and interesting, some children already new what they meant before I had given them the English word. We learnt the songs ‘Ally Bally’ and the ‘Three Craws’.

Another interest from pre-school has been castles, princesses and knights. We explored our large wooden castle using lots of role-play from the children. Pre-school helped to find some knight and princess outfits and resources, we found lots of things we were able to use for exploring and dress-up.

Pre-school have been very interested in writing recently, such as writing their friends names on their pictures and letter activities at the writing table. We made new tartan alphabet flashcards to use during our Scottish topics. Children have continued to carry on their writing skills at home and asking for staffs support during their nursery play.
