In the butterfly room the children are beginning to recognise colours. We have been providing a range of activities to encourage colour recognition including arts and crafts and colour matching games.

The children have also been enjoying local walks in the community exploring different parks and collecting autumn leaves, pine cones and conkers which we then used to make an Autumn tuff tray and printing and making patterns using the pine cones and conkers. We have also added them to our loose parts for the children to explore and use their imagination. We will be sending the children home at some point with a small brown bag to collect Autumn treasures they may find when out and about with their family.

We have been focussing on developing communication skills through every day activities communicating with the children asking questions and naming the toys the children are playing with. The children have also began to recognise their friends names and like to repeat after their teachers. We have been doing lots of singing, using flash cards and reading stories we have particularly enjoyed “The tiger who came to tea” and brought out props such as cuddly and toy tigers.

Throughout the month we have been developing our senses and have been exploring various different messy activities that have been giving us the opportunity to confidently explore different textures. We have been exploring cooked and uncooked pasta in the tuft tray and have also had tinned spaghetti and garden peas to explore in the tray too.
