Stop Press!

Many, many thanks!

To those of you who braved the cold and came along to Aberlady Primary this afternoon – armed with shovels, brushes and not forgetting that essential wheelbarrow – please accept my thanks and those of the pupils, staff and parents whose access routes will be so much the safer thanks to your efforts! Everyone worked so tirelessly to finish off the good job achieved by the Roads & Transportation team earlier in the weekend. It was a great accomplishment and gave a real sense of our very supportive parental community working in a strong and very practical partnership with the school. Thank you so much.

General info

East Lothian Council should be able to open schools on Monday morning (December 6) and Aberlady Primary is certainly no exception.  However, please note that, where the Council is unable to open any school due to adverse conditions or safety concerns, they will endeavour to announce this as early as possible.  Please check the East Lothian Council website, this website and Radio Forth for updates.

School Meals

East Lothian Council will attempt to provide school meals in all of its schools but we would ask that, as a sensible precaution, Aberlady Primary parents and carers provide their child/ren with a packed lunch, just in case there are delivery problems.

Travel and Safety advice

Given the volume of snow and ice and the challenging driving conditions in the surrounding areas of school, we would ask parents to avoid driving their child/ren to school, wherever possible.  Despite ELC’s excellent efforts to clear snow and ice to open up safe routes to school, pavements in many areas are still in a very poor condition.  Please dress your children appropriately for the weather conditions (with maybe even a change of clothing or access to their outdoor PE kit, in the event of a slip en route). Do make sure that you and your children take extreme care when walking to school.  If you have young children, or have concerns about your child’s safety, make sure you accompany them on their walk to school.

At Aberlady, thanks to the good efforts of our volunteers this afternoon, all paths are clear but do, please, take care, as temperatures are set to drop even further. Please do not send your child to school early tomorrow morning. Whilst it may be tempting for them to rush in to play on the large mounds of snow left by the diggers, we are slightly concerned about the prospect of black ice in the playground. (Lots of grit has been set down.) Those pupils who do arrive before the bell at 8.55am, will be received in the school hall – from 8.45am, at the earliest.

Thereafter, we are hoping for a “normal” Monday – and an even more normal week!

Sincere good wishes.
