French School Improvement Group

The French Group has been busy this year encouraging everyone to have fun speaking French. Our weekly whole school challenge has been very successful and everyone is having a go! (The dinner ladies in particular are top of the class!) The French reps have been making a good job of keeping their classroom displays up to date as a reminder of the weekly challenge. This afternoon they were busy looking at resources and making up a wish list of things that will support the learning of French in all our classes. Bravo les enfants!

Adieu Mathieu!

Primary 1/2 had a surprise visitor this morning – Mathieu! He came to see us all to say “Adieu!” before he heads back to Normandy next week. Mathieu has been our friend since last year when he worked alongside Primary 1/2 as our French assistant. It was lovely to see him again today. We sang songs, played games and then Mathieu read a French story called “Le Grand Monstre Vert!” We will be keeping in touch with Mathieu and letting him know how our French is progressing. Merci beaucoup, Mathieu, et bonne chance pour la suite!

Le Retour de Mathieu!

Last week P.1/2 were delighted when their French friend, Mathieu, returned from Normandy to Aberlady and visited the class! Mathieu is working with classes in different East Lothian schools this session and he is also helping to train the new French assistants. He was very impressed when our new Primary 1 pupils introduced themselves in French and Primary 2 demonstrated their numeracy skills by counting up to twenty in French! Then Mathieu taught us a new counting game and song which we can add to our repertoire. He also visited his other former pupils in school too. Merci beaucoup, Mathieu. A bientôt!

Bonjour mes amis!

On Monday Madame Swan visited Primary 1/2 and recorded us singing a special “Hello” song for our new French pen pals who live in Cherbourg. We are very excited to be linking up with a school in Normandy and we are looking forward to getting to know our French buddies who are nine and ten years old.
