We remove reedmace (aka bulrush) from a couple of the wetland areas on the nature reserve. It’s a varyingly wet and muddy job depending on which option you choose… Option 1 is to dig out plants in the soft mud and shallow water (mud factor 3). Option 2 (my favoured one!) is to don old shoes and wade out into the deeper water to pull out and launch plants towards a waiting wheelbarrow (mud factor 10 – a dirty, smelly job but great for the skin complexion!). You’ll need Wellington boots for Option one and old clothes for both.
