New ePraise Tiles!

logo_grey

To support the introduction of ePraise at PL, Airhead have added two custom auto-login tiles for your Launchpads – one for students and one for staff. We’ve added these to the default pupil and teacher Launchpads, but if you already have your Airhead set up, you’ll need to add your ePraise tile yourself.

It’s dead easy, just click the little ‘plus’ icon on the Launchpad you’re wanting to add it to and search for ‘epraise’:

Add the correct version of the tile for you and close the pop up window. Then find the new tile on your Launchpad and right click on it. This will open a pop up window which will allow you to enter your ePraise username and password:

Click save and now whenever you click on the ePraise tile in your Launchpad it will take you straight into ePraise without you having to log in again! Fab!

Sharing Resources Publicly

This post is probably most useful for teachers, but students could use it too.

Say you’re wanting to share a standard set of resources for your subject? It could be a useful collection of standard links, or a selection of great revision videos. You’re wanting to share them with anyone who is studying your subject without having to add your new students each year. How can you do this? Simple, make them public.

Public Launchpad

If you’re wanting to share a collection of links, add them all as tiles to a Launchpad. Then all you need to is click on ‘Share’ on the drop down menu next to the plus sign.

In the pop window that opens, select the ‘Anyone’ tab and follow the instructions.

Screen Shot 2015-09-03 at 12.15.55

This will give you a link which you can share with your students by putting it on your subject website, twitter bio, or in your Google Classrooms.

When students click on the link, they can access and use your Launchpad. Even better, they get the option to add that Launchpad to their own Airhead so that they always have access to it:

You can do the same with Flightdecks. This means you can for example share a collection of playable YouTube clips, Twitter feeds or anything else which you can add as a widget.

It works in the same way. Share button:

Students add the Flightdeck to their own Airhead:

Go on, try it for yourself.

Google Apps and Airhead – improved integration

Update from Airhead:

Following feedback and consultation with many Google Apps customers, we have made a significant improvement to the way Airhead integrates with Google Apps. In order to facilitate the improvements, all existing Google Apps customers will be asked to grant permission again for Airhead to link up with their Google Apps account. Once the changes have been made, you will see a message like this the next time you sign into Airhead using you Google Apps account:

Find out more on the Airhead Help Site.

RSS Feed for this blog

I’ve added a widget to the default Pupil & Teacher FlightDecks which shows the posts on this site, however if you’ve already created your AirHead account you won’t have this.

So if you click the Add Widget button in your FlightDeck, choose Content Viewer and then paste the following embed code into the widget, you’ll have a nice scrolling feed showing you the latest posts on this blog.

<style>body {margin:0 auto;overflow: hidden;}
</style>

Scholar Auto-logon

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 21.54.27If you’re in the senior phase you’ll be familiar with Heriot-Watt’s Scholar resources. I had a LaunchPad tile for this but the auto-logon feature wasn’t working…AirHead have kindly sorted this!

So right click on the Scholar tile now and you can input your Scholar username and password…then next time you click on it it’ll log you straight into Scholar. Awesome.

Adding a Twitter Timeline to your FlightDeck

A few folk have been asking me how to add a twitter timeline to their FlightDeck. You need to get an embed code from Twitter which isn’t as obvious as it should be.

On the web version of twitter, click on your avatar on the top right of the page then go to settings.

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 21.46.25

Then look for the ‘Widgets’ at the very bottom of the menu on the left. Then click on ‘Create New’

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 21.46.52

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 21.47.00

Once you’re in you’ll be able to configure a widget for any twitter account, just how you want it. Once you’re happy click ‘Create Widget’ and you’ll get an embed code which you can copy across to your FlightDeck widget.

Hey presto!

Staff Email Tile

Screen Shot 2015-01-21 at 21.39.39After telling the staff about AirHead, I suddenly realised that a LaunchPad tile for staff email would be good…so I’ve added one. I’ve put it on the Teacher default LaunchPad so any new users should get it, but if you were a keen bean you wouldn’t have got it. You can add it now by searching for ELC Staff Email in the search box after clicking the add tile plus button.
