Wildhearts Conference

Mrs Donnelly and 3 senior Business Management pupils; Daniel Cook, John Smith and Harry Mitchell were lucky enough to be invited to the annual Global Entrepreneurial Wildhearts Conference hosted by RBS at Gogarburn yesterday.

We were inspired by various guest speakers who included:

  • Gavin Armstrong, President and CEO of Lucky Iron Fish, a Canadian organisation implementing a simple health innovation to alleviate iron deficiency in Cambodia.
  • Lilian Lee, Founder of Fourth World Art, a social enterprise that seeks to empower artisan communities in Haiti and help them rebuild from crisis through the sale of the art.
  • Josh Littlejohn, Founder of the Scottish Business Awards, the UK’s largest awards ceremony, and Social Bite, a chain of sandwich shops that employs homeless people and dedicates its profits to good causes.
  • Entrepreneurial Spark, bringing local and international entrepreneurs to the stage to share their experiences of what launching your own company is really like.
  • Insights from Corporate leaders such as Claire Bench, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Deloitte and Glen McGowan, Head of Early Careers at RBS. Further sessions lead by Career Academies, CAPP and the Saltire Foundation.
  • Plus a very special presentation from the Micro-Tyco school and university champions.
  • Hosted by Mick Jackson, Founder of WildHearts & Micro-Tyco

We learned a lot about Social Enterprise and are looking forward to doing the Wildhearts Micro-Tico challenge in the coming months where we will turn £1 into a more to be invested to global ethical businesses.

Fantastic trip to Blackpool

Homeward bound after great few days where the sun stayed out.  Highlights include the tower, pleasure beach, sandcastle waterpark. Let’s not forget Sealife Centre where on request we saw the piranhas get fed and of course the pigeon on the train with 25 screaming pupils and Miss Currie standing on her seat.  Everyone was surprised at how good Mrs Donnelly was at laser quest and we all enjoyed the competitive team nature of the game and Mr Potter running about shouting.  A fantastic trip with fantastic pupils. A great way to start the summer.

Highland Show 2014

New S4 Business Management pupils had a great day yesterday visting the Royal Highland Showground.  The sun was shining and pupils enjoyed wandering around many local market stalls and picking up a few freebies.  The pupils participated in a workshop where they were spoken to about milk production and a few even managed to have a shot milking the fibreglass cow.  A fantastic day all round which we hope to repeat next year.
