Wednesday 2nd December 2020
Dear Parents and Carers
December is here and the temperature is dropping – even some snow being forecast for this week! However just as it always does, December marks a special time in our school calendar. Despite the current restrictions, we want the end of this term to be every bit as special as it always is and have planned a range of festive fun for the remainder of this term.
As well as the important information about Christmas preparations at Campie please also look out for information about our Twitter account and a Group Call email request to send an updated consent to share photographs on our social media platforms.
With kind regards
Pauline McKay

As you will be aware, Campie celebrates its 100th birthday later this month. The actual date Campie opened as a school was 26th May 1919 but as this is a Sunday and Edinburgh Marathon day, we have decided to hold our celebratory events on Thursday 30th and Friday 31st May. These events are as follows:
Thursday 30th May (pm)
There will be party atmosphere in the playground for pupils with music, games, gifts and, of course, cake! What birthday would be complete without cake?
Friday 31st May (am)
Pupils can come to school dressed in costume from any decade within the last century. This is completely optional and we would request that no football strips are worn. They will also have the opportunity to share their learning with each other by visiting classes and the exhibition.
Friday 31st May (pm)
Campie will be open to everyone! There will be an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia and an opportunity to tour the school visiting classrooms. All parents and carers of our current pupils are invited to this and hopefully you can bring other members of your family too. We hope that the school is full of chat, laughter and song – just like a birthday party should be!
During the afternoon, a team from Edinburgh University’s Oral History Project will be available in the Parents’ Room. If you have any special memories of Campie then they would love to talk to you as they work to create historical transcripts for East Lothian.
In the lead up to the birthday, learning in Social Studies will focus on Campie as it is now, could be in the future and as it was in the past. Pupils from P3 to P7 will be studying significant events in relation to specific decades within the century and the number 100 will feature in our work around science, technology, engineering and maths.
This is a really significant and important celebration for our school and our community and we are doing all we can to make it meaningful and special for our children. If you feel that you can help or contribute in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Kind Regards
Alison Elgin
