As requested by several members of the Campie Community, the issue of the annual school trip to the pantomime being cancelled this year was raised at the recent Parent Council meeting.
The key concerns of parents/carers were fed back to the Senior Leadership Team including:
- No consultation with parents/carers prior to making the decision
- Additional cost for families to take their children to the theatre outside of school (approx. £66 for a family of four)
- Removing the children’s experience of attending the theatre
- Lack of support for a local community theatre
This issue was discussed at length and the Senior Leadership Team advised that while the Cost of the School Day was one factor in this decision they were also unable to secure suitable dates for the children to attend. The available dates were in mid-November and the school felt this was too early in the school year, therefore did not proceed with a booking.
Unfortunately, due to the issue with the available dates there are not currently any plans for the school to amend the decision not to attend the pantomime this year.
It has been discussed that the pantomime trip may be reintroduced next year or the school may consider attending the theatre every second year.
If you have any further questions on concerns about this please get in touch with the school directly.
