Talbot Rice Gallery is seeking an enthusiastic and engaged Gallery Assistant to join our small, hard-working team during an exciting period of re-awakening for the gallery.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for visitors to the gallery providing excellent front of house invigilation and customer care, working closely with a small team of volunteers. In addition, the Gallery Assistant will provide secretarial and administrative support to the gallery team and support exhibition and events planning and delivery.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic team player with a passion for contemporary art who welcomes new challenges and has excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
For most of the year the working days are Tuesday to Saturday while the gallery is open to the public. Between exhibitions, normal working days are Monday to Friday (approximately 15 weeks of the year). Sunday working is essential during the Festival (currently end July – end August). Whilst regular working hours are 9am – 5pm, the post holder is required, with notice, to assist with events programmed outside normal working days and hours, so flexibility is important in this role.
As an equal opportunities’ employer, we welcome applicants from all sections of the community, regardless of age, gender, race and ethnicity, disability, nationality, religion, sexual orientation or transgender status. Our University and Edinburgh College of Art, of which Talbot Rice Gallery is a key part, are committed to Athena SWAN principles and we welcome applications from Black and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in this area. All appointments will be made on merit.
