Another busy month for the Glow Programme. Good progress is being made and the team has celebrated a number of successful milestones but there is still a lot of work ahead as we approach October switchover.

Embedding Vimeo Videos: Active East Lothian
Did you know you can easily embed videos from the Vimeo video-sharing web site on eduBuzz WordPress sites?
All you need to do is post the video’s URL, on a line by itself, where you want the embedded video to appear. Use the Text editor tab when you paste in the video’s URL: the Visual editor will automatically turn it into a link, but we don’t want that.
Your post should look like this:

Using Galleries to Make Slideshows
WordPress Galleries are a great way to tell visual stories with captioned pictures. Galleries are just a simple way of inserting an attractive “gallery” of photos into a post, without having to worry about whether they line up correctly.
It used to be, though, that you couldn’t see the Gallery in your post editor – just a placeholder image. That’s now been improved, so you can see your Gallery in your post. There are also tool now to let you easily rearrange the images.
And finally, if you’d rather see the gallery in a slideshow viewer, not as an array of images, activate the Photo Galleria plugin. That’s switched on here. Once it’s activated, you’ll see a new menu option for it under Settings, where you can control the size of the viewer, and make it play as an automatic slideshow if you want.

Copyright and Schools (http://www.copyrightandschools.org) is a new resource that makes it easier than ever to get to the information teachers need.
This information is notorious for being fragmented across a lot of web sites, and being presented in less than accessible formats for busy teachers, so this is a welcome development.

Catching Up Just Got Easier: “Activity Stream” Bug Fixed
A bug that has been preventing access to older updates has now been squished.

The eduBuzz home page Activity Stream is a popular way to keep in touch with what’s happening around the East Lothian schools community.
Often, though, we’re too busy to keep up, and want to browse older updates. Unfortunately, a bug was limiting access to just the three most recent pages of updates. That has now been fixed, and you’ll find you can go right back in time – currently as far as 20th May 2014.

Into Film: bringing opportunities for watching, making and understanding film to all 5-19 year olds
Into Film is a new Lottery-funded education charity founded by previous film education charities, FILMCLUB and First Light. Into Film aims to bring opportunities for watching, making and understanding film to all 5-19 year olds.
Through Into Film teachers can access free DVD rental, learning resources linked to Curriculum for Excellence, CPD and training, support for setting up a film club or filmmaking activities, and exciting opportunities for pupils including in-school visits, free cinema screenings and a talent development programme.
Learning through film is an exciting and innovative way to engage with pupils and is very relevant to Curriculum for Excellence.
Several schools across East Lothian are already involved in Into Film and it would be great to get more schools benefiting from this free education programme.
Into Film is free to join and you can find out more information about the bespoke programme in Scotland at www.intofilm.org/scotland. For more information or to register email support@intofilm.org or call 0207 288 4520.
