Walk to School Week (17-21 May)

Our school/nursery is taking part in Walk to School Week (17-21 May). The nationwide event is organised by walking charity Living Streets and designed to help pupils experience first-hand the importance of walking to school. Children will be well on their way to reaching their recommended 60 minutes minimum of physical activity per day before even reaching the school gates.  Not only will it set them up for a positive day in the classroom, but it will also help create healthy habits for life.

Each pupil will be challenged to travel sustainably (walk, wheel, scoot, cycle or Park and Stride) to school every day for one week.

What do I need to do as a parent/carer? We would ask, if possible, to make arrangements so that your child/children can travel actively to school/nursery on w/c 17 May, helping our school reduce congestion and pollution around the school gates. Walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling all count! If you live far away from school/nursery and need to drive or take public transport, try parking the car or hopping off the bus/train ten minutes away and walking the rest of the journey.

Musical Theatre Online Classes are back

After a hugely successful pilot, our Musical Theatre Online Classes are back! Due to phenomenal demand, our next 6-week block will begin later this month.

Participants will learn songs from the most famous musicals and develop their vocal technique under the professional leadership of Musical Director, Tommie Travers. The classes will also cover how to act through song, whilst exploring the themes and musical genres covered in each new piece. This will encourage group discussion and will enhance participants’ emotional understanding and communication skills.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from their own homes via a professional sound setup over Zoom, with live piano accompaniment. Each Zoom session will aim to strike a balance between informative teaching, and fun and lively group interaction. The aim is to provide a friendly, safe and supportive environment for these young people to have fun, develop their voices and ultimately sing – something that we know children are really missing at the moment.

Classes are open to young people aged between 8 and 16 years old, and will run for 6 weeks from either Tuesday 18 May or Thursday 20th May 2021.

We are offering the same classes twice a week (Tuesdays & Thursdays), so participants can chose the day that suits them best:

Tuesdays:
Dates: 18th, 25th May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd June
8-12 year olds (Primary) 4.30pm-5.30pm
12-16 year olds (Secondary) 5.30pm-6.30pm

Thursdays:
Dates: 20th, 27th May, 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th June
8-12 year olds (Primary) 4.30pm-5.30pm
12-16 year olds (Secondary) 5.30pm-6.30pm

Places cost just £24 for the 6-week block, plus an additional £1.50 booking fee

Please note, when booking online, the system will only display the start date of the class you select but you will be booking the entire 6-week block.

We are anticipating a high demand for these classes, and would suggest booking as soon as possible to avoid missing out as spaces are limited.

Easter Break

The staff at Cockenzie Primary School and Nursery would like to wish you all a lovely Easter break.

Staff and Children will resume on Tuesday 20th April 2021 at normal time.

We hope you all have a lovely time.

Message from Cockenzie Primary School PTA

We are starting a new Fundraising Game called Split the Pot! We will open the pot every Monday.  Players pay £1 to get a spot in the pot and their name added to the money wheel. You can play as many times as you like.  Every Friday, we will spin the wheel of names and the winner will get half the pot of cash with the other have going to the school.  Hopefully this will generate some cash for the school going forward as there’s not much left in the coffers.

I’ve added it to our website and Facebook page so a wee email would be great! Our website is www.cpspta.co.uk and our Facebook page is  https://www.facebook.com/Cockenzie-Primary-PTA-102540994687274/

Thank you
