Cooking Up A Storm

Well done to Jamie and Joseph in P6 who represented Cockenzie at the Preston Lodge round of the Little and Large cooking competition. They worked with a pupil at PL to create a delicious cheesecake. They did so well that they won the round and are headed off to the East Lothian finals in Dunbar in a few weeks time. We wish them all the best for the final! We are very proud, and look forward to tasting more of your creations. IMG_7192

Reading Week

Throughout the school we are busy this week taking part in a readathon to raise money to develop our school library. We are trying to read as many minutes as possible and get sponsored for doing our best. The class that reads the most minutes this week wins a pizza party so we are really trying very hard.
To encourage us to read as much as we can our teachers have been reading in lots of funny places. We are trying to find the pictures of them all through the school.IMG_7132

There are also lots of book characters hidden around the school to find. We love reading at Cockenzie.

Maths Week

A whole school Maths Week is on the 23rd to the 27th of March. This will involve lots of fun maths challenges with a financial education focus;  each year group having their own real life scenarios to explore.

We are looking for parent helpers to help with the Maths Roadshow. This will be a range hands on maths activities and challenges that the children can work through. Each class has an allocated time slot during the week when parent helpers would be appreciated.

If you are able to spare some time during that week please  contact the office.

Garden Plate Gardening Club

GardenSam Hawthorn from Roots and Fruits will be running a gardening club for children accompanied by an adult during the summer holidays starting on 15th July, on Tuesdays (3.00pm to 5.00pm) and Wednesdays (10.00am to 12 noon) in our Outdoor Classroom/Garden area next to In Bloom.

Please note that the children will be the responsibility of the accompanying adult.

This is part of the Garden Plate project being run by Roots and Fruits.

All Welcome

The Garden Plate Project – School club/sessions

We are hoping to start an after school club/session in our Outdoor Classroom/Garden area next to In Bloom.

Worshops are being led by Sam Hawthorne from Roots & Fruits and the next one will be held tomorrow, Thursday 3rd July from 3.20pm – 4.20pm.    If your children wish  to attend, they must have an adult with them.  Green fingers not required!

Hopefully some of the families might have some time over the summer holidays that they could commit to helping with watering and weeding, etc. but this could be discussed with Sam if you are able to attend tomorrow night.  Also, the group could continue into the start of next session – further details will be provided in due course.

Active Schools Parents Survey

Active Schools is responsible for running a number of activity clubs offered to your child in the local area. We would like your views on a variety of activities that your child could participate in, so that we can focus on activities that parents would like their child participating in.

The survey should take between 5 and 10 minutes to complete.

  • Responses to this survey can remain anonymous.
  • Results of this survey will be published on the school website as well as the Active East Lothian website.
