Parents and carers matter too.

Here at Cockenzie Nursery we recognise the huge importance of working in partnership with parents and carers and we are constantly looking for new ways to involve you in our setting. This blog is one way we can do this so please feel free to leave comments on our posts to let us know what you think about our learning.

Another way we hope to involve parents and carers is by setting up our Nursery Forum. The plan is to meet four or five times throughout the year so that you can share any ideas, thoughts or concerns you may have regarding the nursery. Our first meeting will be held on Tuesday 5 Nov 5-6pm and it would be fantastic to see as many parents as possible there.

We also hold stay and play sessions for you to come in and spend some time playing with your child in the nursery. The calendar for this is on the wall of the cloakroom.

Primary 1 enrolment

The envelopes containing Primary 1 enrolment forms are in the  communication pockets in the cloakroom. 

If Cockenzie Primary is your catchment school you need to complete the enrolment  form and take it to the school office, with the required documents at one of the times stated below

  • Thursday 31 October between 0730 – 0900hrs
  • Friday 1 November between 10000 – 1200hrs
  • Thursday 7 November between 1800 – 1900hrs
  • OUTWITH THESE TIMES BY ARRANGEMENT ONLY 

Out of catchment places

If you live outside of Cockenzie or Port Seton and therefore Cockenzie Primary is not your catchment school but you wish your child to attend Cockenzie Primary, you must contact your catchment school and find out their times of enrolment, then take your form and the required documents to that school and enrol your child there.  You should also complete the Out of Catchment Form enclosed in your Primary 1 enrolment pack and send this to John Muir House.  Please do not return this form to the nursery or the school office.

Documents needed to enrol for Primary 1

  • Completed Yellow Enrolment form and White Photograph form
  • Birth Certificate
  • Most Recent Council Tax Letter (as proof of address)
  • Utility bill dated within 6 months of the day of registration

Any volunteers out there?

Our garden is a fantastic space for learning and exploring but as you can imagine it is a big job for our nursery ladies to look after.  Do you have any time to spare, have DIY skills we can use or green fingers to help us grow?  We would love to hear from you.  You do not have to be a parent, we will happily accept help from extended family of past and present children.
