Building STEM Capital webinars

In February and March, we hosted a series of webinars focused on Building STEM Capital with families and communities. You can catch up on these sessions on our YouTube channel. The sessions provide an introduction to STEM capital, research, resources and include shared practice from practitioners.

 

Outdoor Classroom Day – 20 May

Being outdoors and active is a vital part of living a healthy and fulfilled life, and learning outdoors has benefits for children, young people and adults alike. We would love to see some of the exciting learning taking place in your setting on Outdoor Classroom Day. Share them with @STEMedscot with the hashtag #Learnoutdoors #Outdoorclassroomday.

Virtual Work Placements Guidance

New guidance is available to support the delivery of high quality Virtual Work Placements (VWP) in accordance with a set of national expectations. In tandem Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) have now developed the relevant qualifications for this, which are available for all learners undertaking a VWP, by searching within ‘Unit search’ on the SQA website.

Reading resources: Children’s Book Week

The 2021 Children’s Book Week will take place during two dedicated weeks of celebration, 3 – 9 May and 8 – 14 November. Education Scotland have a range of resources to help you to celebrate books for young people and the joy of reading. The National Literacy Professional Learning Community has a range of learning and teaching resources and the National School Libraries PLC can also help you to make the most of your school library. Our partners at Scottish Book Trust also have a range of learning programmes as well as book recommendations and ideas to encourage a love of reading.

STEM Grants Programme – £400,000 available in funding

Education Scotland has launched Round 3 of its STEM Grants Programme to support professional learning in STEM including Numeracy and Mathematics. Bids supporting early learning and childcare, ASN, community learning and development and school technicians are especially encouraged. More information is available on our website.
