Session PC07: Outdoor learning in early years

A Twilight Session designed for practitioners working in Early Learning and Childcare in East Lothian as part of a series of twilight sessions to build our ambition to be reflective practitioners dedicated to delivering the highest quality early learning experiences. The sessions provide an ideal opportunity to develop a partnership network and to share practice.

Session overview:

We know what research has shown about outdoor learning leading to a range of benefits for children’s development and general wellbeing including better concentration, better communication skills, greater stamina, improved balance and coordination, increased confidence and appreciation and understanding of the outdoors.

When exploring and playing in the outdoors children often demonstrate a range of skills that we would not ordinarily see in such depth. Children are problem solvers and creative thinkers. They are also developing positive attitudes to learning shown through their increasing confidence to co-operate with peers and adults alike.
