Supporting Speech, Language and Communication in the Early Years

There will be two session and participants must attend both.

Outline Programme

Session 1:

        • Participants will be provided with strategies and activities to promote children’s attention and listening skills, understanding of language, spoken language and social communication skills within an early years setting.
        • Participant will be provided with a pack of ‘Talking Time’ activities to use with children in their Early Years Setting.
        • Participants will be expected to show evidence of using the resources provided in their setting and share feedback during the second session.

Session 2:

        • Participants will share evidence of using resources provided in Session 1. This session will also focus on parental engagement and how to share group resources with parents.
        • Information on supporting Phonological Awareness development in an Early Years Setting will also be shared.

Outcomes

On completion of the course, participants will:

        • Have a working knowledge of strategies which they can use to support speech, language and communication development with all children in their setting.
        • Have a toolbox of practical resources to use with children in their setting.
        • Be able to engage parents in ‘Talking Time’ activities.
