Child Protection Level 1

Child Protection Level 1 Awareness & Response training provides council staff /voluntary organisations and the third sector across East and Midlothian with a basic awareness about child protection issues and how to respond to child protection concerns.

The objectives for the training are:

  • To understand the different types of child protection concerns, types of abuse and what to be aware of;
  • To have improved knowledge of current child protection policies and procedures;
  • To understand your role in the child protection process;
  • To know what to do if you are worried about a child or young person.

There are two ways to complete this training:

Option 1

  • A 3-hour ‘face to face’ training delivered by a qualified Social Worker;
  • This should be completed if you have direct contact with children;
  • This training should be refreshed every two years via the e-learning module.

Option 2

  • An e-learning module which can be accessed through ‘LearnPro’. This will require staff to have access to a computer;
  • This should be completed if you do not have direct contact with children;
  • This training should be refreshed every two years via the e-learning module.

Level 1 training should be completed prior to any further Child Protection training.
