Signs of Safety – New date for training

The “Signs of Safety” course aims to give a short introduction to staff working with families who engage with Social Work, especially in matters of Child Protection.  The Signs of Safety model has been implemented in East Lothian.

Signs of Safety is a guide to working in high-risk, child protection cases in a solution-focused, safety oriented way, according to clear underpinning practice principles and elements.

The next training takes place on 24th January 2018, 1.30-4.30pm

Level 1 Child Protection Training

 Guidance on Child Protection Level 1 Awareness & Response Training

Child Protection Level 1 Awareness & Response training provides council staff /voluntary organisations and the third sector across East and Midlothian with a basic awareness about child protection issues and how to respond to child protection concerns.

The objectives for the training are;

  • To understand the different types of child protection concerns, types of abuse and what to be aware of;
  • To have improved knowledge of current child protection policies and procedures;
  • To understand your role in the child protection process;
  • To know what to do if you are worried about a child or young person.Option 1
  • There are two ways to complete this training:
  • A 3-hour ‘face to face’ training delivered by a qualified Social Worker;
  • This should be completed if you have direct contact with children;
  • This training should be refreshed every two years via the e-learning module.

Option 2

  • An e-learning module which can be accessed through ‘LearnPro’. This will require staff to have access to a computer;
  • This should be completed if you do not have direct contact with children;
  • This training should be refreshed every two years via the e-learning module.

Level 1 training should be completed prior to any further Child Protection training.
