World Maths Day

I know East Lothian schools enjoy participating in World Maths Day which in March this year saw a staggering 1.2 million students taking part and setting a new Guinness World Record in the process. Therefore, I would like to bring to your attention a free on-line Maths event taking place in November which is open to ALL schools in the UK.

It begins on the 8th November with the practice week taking place from the 1st-7th November. Students will take part in live mental maths games and complete activities which have been aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence too. There are a number of great prizes to be won by pupils, classes and schools. Therefore, I would be delighted if you would consider letting the schools in your region know about this exciting challenge say, through your website or similar. In fact some East Lothian schools, which use Mathletics, have registered their willingness to unite in numbers to participate against the other home nations already. I have attached a Four Nations Maths Challenge flyer and some Education Authority briefing notes but should you require any additional information please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
