Planning & Assessment in other schools: Haddington Cluster In-Service

The teachers of schools in the Haddington cluster came together on the afternoon of the 10th January to share their progress with planning and assessment.

The afternoon involved a brief input from me, followed by three teachers from primary and secondary sharing their practice. Everyone then worked in mixed groups to share an summarise what was working well for them and what were the common issues. They then displayed these and had a chance to look at each others and provide feedback. The session concluded with teachers coming together as departments/faculties/schools to consider their approaches to planning and assessment.

You can view the presentations and outcomes from the afternoon below.

Chalk Face CfE Blog

The LTS Area Advisor Team have begun putting together a blog aimed at practitioners in primary, ASN and early years settings.

Practitioners like to talk to other practitioners and they do this with increased confidence when what they are discussing is based on successful real life experience. To this end, a new blog is now available to support CfE in primary, ASN and early years settings. It has been set up for people who are working at the ‘chalk face’. Visit the blog to hear what other practitioners have been doing and see the links to other related support and guidance on the LTS website. The blog will be looking at ‘what could I do now and how might I do it’ in a range of areas.

Some East Lothian Schools have already been involved in sharing their practice…

Stoneyhill Primary School: Driving consistency of practice in CfE

Dunbar Primary School: Planning teaching with colleagues

Pencaitland Primary School: Building Confidence in Assessment and Moderation

Well done to those who’ve been involved. Check out the blog for more videos.

Primary Tracking

Sarah Laing, an Early Years Practitioner at Innerwick Primary, has kindly offered to share the work she has been doing on developing tracker sheets for Curriculum for Excellence Experiences & Outcomes.

You can download the guide and all eight of the documents by clicking on the links below.

Sarah has asked me to point out that the documents only open in Word 02, 03 and 07.

Thanks Sarah for sharing.

Numeracy & Maths Authority Moderation Meeting Postponed

This is a message for East Lothian’s Numeracy & Maths Cluster Moderation Coordinators.

In light of the weather conditions and school closures, we’ve decided to postpone tomorrow’s Numeracy & Maths Authority Moderation Meeting. We’ll be in touch as soon as possible to arrange a replacement date.

We will make a final decision regarding Thursday’s Literacy & English Moderation Meeting on Wednesday, but for now please assume that this meeting is still going ahead.
