A Guided Tour of Dirleton Castle by Our P6/7 Class

This guided tour of Dirleton Castle, East Lothian, by Ms Cooper and Dirleton Primary School’s P6/7 class represents the finale of a term-long learning project during which the class have used the context of the castle and its history to create an engaging, highly relevant source of learning opportunities. This epitomises the ethos of Scotland’s “Curriculum for Excellence”, in particular its encouragement of active learning http://www.educationscotland.gov.uk/learningandteaching/approaches/activelearning/about/what.asp.

Thanks are due to Historic Scotland and the Dirleton Castle staff for their support with the project.

Solar Eclipse 2015

Over the last couple of days the whole school has been learning about the solar eclipse and how to watch it safely. We made pin hole projectors and cardboard box projectors and Caitlin from P6 kindly let us have a look through her special solar eclipse safety glasses! We had great fun this morning using our home made safety devices and really appreciated the opportunity to witness such a rare event ….. that’s it till 2026 folks!

P6/7 Rhythm of Life – Homework Task

Hello P6/7’s as promised I have attached the two tracks for you, the first one has the melody to help you learn the tune and the second is the one that will be played on the day. We’ll be having another practise in class on Thursday so I look forward to hearing how you are progressing. Good Luck!

The Rhythm of Life

When I started down the street last Sunday

Feeling mighty low and kinda mean

Suddenly a voice said ‘Go fourth neighbour,

Spread the picture on a wider screen’

Go, go, go! Go, go, go!

Tell them everything you know!

For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,

Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet.

Rhythm on the inside, rhythm on the street,

And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat x3

Go and spread the gospel in Milwaukee,

Take a walkie talkie to Rocky Ridge!

(All the way to Canton then to Scranton

Even tell it under the Manhattan Bridge)

You will make a new sensation,

Have a growing congregation,

Build a glowing operation here below!

Like a pied piper blowing,

Lead and keep the music flowing,

Keep the rhythm go, go, going,

Go, go go! x3

Flip your wings and fly up high!

Flip your wings and fly up high!

Flip your wings and fly up high!

Fly, fly, fly up high!

You can do it if you try!

You can do it if you try!

You can do it if you try!

Try, try, try to fly

To feel the rhythm of life!

To feel the powerful beat!

To feel the tingle in your fingers!

To feel the tingle in your feet!

[For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,

Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet.

Rhythm on the inside, rhythm on the street,

And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat] x2

To feel the rhythm of life!

To feel the powerful beat!

To feel the tingle in your fingers!

To feel the tingle in your…life!

Neighbour you’ve got the rhythm of life,

Of life, of life, of life,

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!   Life!

World Book Day

Today was World Book Day and the P6/7’s rose to the ‘dress up as a book character challenge!’

Today we had the chance to have a look at our upgraded library which was kindly re-organised by Mrs Wood with some help from Mrs Smith. Thank you to you both for all your hard work!! There are some fantastic new books which we can’t wait to read

The class told me that they are especially happy to see Diary of a Wimpy Vampire and the Roman Mysteries books that are now in stock. Thank you Mr Moody!
