Another very busy week for Primary 3/4 with all the children working extremely hard.
In gymnastics we have been learning how to balance and counter balance
In maths we have been drawing shapes and learning how to work out the area.
On Wednesday Chef Alison came into school to help us bake Halloween Hedgehogs.
We’re helping East Lothian Council roads staff to trial a new approach to keeping us safe around the school.
These colourful characters are taking our road safety messages right to the side of the roads around our school, where drivers can’t miss them. And they seem to be doing a good job – it’s now planned to extend the idea to other schools.
At the start of the week we made apple coleslaw as our class entry for the school apple competition.
We thought it tasted great!
With our talk partners we have been practising tricky spellings.
In the Thursday group we are learning how to play traditional playground games such as Hopscotch, Duck, Duck, Goose and What’s the time Mr Wolf?
Today we all thoroughly enjoyed The Apple Festival.
We started the morning with ‘Wake and Shake’ led by the Primary 7’s. Followed by Metafit led by Mrs Brown.
Luckily the rain held off and we were able to go to the orchard where we used our mental maths skills to solve tricky addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems.
In the Apple Crafts session we made some Christmas pegs and apple bird feeders.
The tasting session came next.
We pressed apples and tasted delicious fresh apple juice made the old fashioned way.
Apples were cored and twirled.
Delicious juices were made, we really liked the apple and ginger combination.
The Apple Festival was rounded off with a Toast to the Orchard with our very own freshly pressed apple juice.

Outdoor Learning at Archerfield Walled Garden
We enjoyed a whole day at Archerfield learning about different aspects of Fresh Water.
We gave each part of the water cycle an action and had great fun dramatising the cycle.
We then sketched the water cycle and added some detail using water colours.
We enjoyed pond dipping and identified the creatures using a chart.
We also learned a lot about how water is used at Archerfield from keeping the golf courses looking good to maintaining the plants and flowers.
A science experiment came next as we tried to clean some dirty water using our home made water filtration bottles. We had some great results and lots of scientific discussion.
