UCAS 2018-2019 – Update for parents and carers
Any student who is applying to university this year should now have started on their UCAS application. They will be supported by a member of staff, either their Guidance teacher or another member of staff and they have all been informed who their mentor is. Students are required to meet with them for support in writing their personal statement. The students should have provided their mentor with a first draft of their personal statement and be working on the second draft which is due the 12 October. The final draft is due 26 October. In most cases the mentor will also be writing the reference for the student and if not it will be the guidance teacher.
You can support your child in this application process by:
- Reading their personal statement before they submit it to their mentor.
- Encouraging them to continue completing all sections of their application
- Go online to www.ucas.com/parents where you find lots of useful information, resources and videos.
- Asking your child to invite you to the UCAS Google classroom. On this you will find a timeline along with any additional information that they may need to complete their application.
A pack is going home with students over the next few days containing a school closure form, a mandate form for the School Council 200 Club, new photo permission form for S1s, an email and NHS form and an Annual Data Check form which is required to be checked by parent/carers, updated as appropriate, signed and returned by Friday 26th October.
If you have no email address, it is essential that you inform the school. Where this is the case, we will provide a printout of this weekly information update to students on a Monday morning in their registration folder. A printout is only available to families who do not have access to email. The weekly email information is automatically updated on our website.
Photograph Permission Forms
Students over 12 years of age will be completing photo permission forms themselves: ELC Photo Video Permissions Form over 12s
The school photographer will be in school on Wednesday 10th October to photograph students in S1, S4, S6 and prefects. Please would students ensure they are wearing full school uniform; prefects should wear white shirt, tie and blazers.

Parent and Carer Survey
We are looking to refresh the school Vision, Values and Aims.
All students have had the opportunity to share their views on DGS values through surveys which were completed in registration classes. We now would like to seek the views of our parents and carers in terms of what school values are important to them. This survey consists of just one question:
