The S2 Go4SET team (Lucy Thomson, Holly Finlayson, Callum Sands, Thomas Proudfoot, Catrin Smith and Emily Brown) were at Heriot-Watt University on Thursday 14 March for the regional Celebration and Assessment Day at the end of their 12 week project. The team performed brilliantly with positive feedback from the assessors regarding their model, response to questioning and the learning they had taken from their Torness visit.

The team all enjoyed the day and when asked for their thoughts on the project said that it was “good fun, a great opportunity and a valuable experience”.

Congratulations to all the team who were all awarded their Bronze certificates for the Industrial Cadet programme in recognition of their work.

Mathematics and Foreign Languages Competition

On Tuesday 5 March a number of our S4, S5 and S6 pupils took part in the international Mathématiques sans Frontières competition, which is run annually by the Académie de Strasbourg.

Our contestants put their heads together to solve a number of complex puzzles, one of which was completed in a foreign language. During the 90 minutes, the pupils showed immense talent and composure, putting their problem solving, team work and communication skills to the test.

Congratulations to all who took part and we look forward to hearing the results in June.

The Big Pedal 2019

The Big Pedal is a national competition to encourage school students to cycle to school. Last year DGS had over 12% of students cycling and we placed 3rd in Scotland for secondary schools.

As the weather gets nicer and the days get longer more and more pupils and staff are taking to their bikes for a blast of fresh air before school. The Big Pedal runs from March 25 until April 5 so now is the time to check out those bikes that have been in the back of the garage or shed all winter. Pump up the tyres and enjoy the sunshine!

If you live a bit closer to school you may wish to walk! This year for the first time all walking journeys will be counted too! So if cycling isn’t your thing you can still get take part and earn house points.

California 2020

Deposit cheques are ready for collection for students not attending California.
