S2 Activities Week
A reminder that the full balance is due to be paid by Friday 29 March.
Study Leave for S6 Students
We have agreed with S6 students that their last official day in school will be Friday 5 April. On this day there will be a variety of activities, including the Leavers’ Ceremony and Concert, to celebrate their time at Dunbar Grammar School. Letters were given to students today: S6 Leavers’ Letter. Any parents/carers of students who are leaving are requested to return the tear-off slip so that we can reserve a free ticket. Students will be asked to collect reserved tickets from the office from Monday 1 April.
The Big Pedal 2019
The Big Pedal is a national competition to encourage school students to cycle to school. Last year DGS had over 12% of students cycling and we placed 3rd in Scotland for secondary schools.
As the weather gets nicer and the days get longer more and more pupils and staff are taking to their bikes for a blast of fresh air before school. The Big Pedal runs from 25 March until 5 April so now is the time to check out those bikes that have been in the back of the garage or shed all winter. Pump up the tyres and enjoy the sunshine!
If you live a bit closer to school you may wish to walk! This year for the first time all walking journeys will be counted too! So if cycling isn’t your thing you can still get take part and earn house points.
A reminder that if parents/carers change their contact details they should inform the school so we can update our records. This is especially important to ensure we have up to date emergency contact information.
Easter Holiday Study Spaces
Belhaven and St Anne’s have very kindly offered their church halls as spaces for Easter holiday study from Monday 8 to Friday 12 April. Volunteers from the churches will be there to supervise the students. Letters about this will be issued next week and students will be required to sign up in advance.
The Student Leadership Team will run a fundraising event on Friday 29 March at breaktime. This is to raise funds for The Asthma Unit for Children and Young People at Sick Kids.
3 lucky teachers with the largest number of votes will be selected to have their legs waxed by Lynn from The Cutting Room in front of everyone in the new social space! A massive thank you to her.
Each student will get 1 free vote in registration next week, and additional votes can be bought for 20p each in the old and new social spaces, Monday to Thursday at breaktime.
Thank you for your support!

Free Clothes for Kids in East Lothian
MIIXER cic reopen their retail outlet tomorrow on a permanent basis on Musselburgh High Street (used to be Store 21). This is a third sector initiative that works in partnership with Waste Services. On the last Sunday of each month kids clothes will be free.
Each family can take up to 2 kg of children’s clothes (including shoes) which must be checked out at the counter so that they can record weights. We will be trialling this initiative for the first three months to ascertain demand. If we cannot supply to meet demand from current donations we may have to work towards a referral system/expansion of the donation bank network or a combination of both.
School uniforms and wellies are free every day and anyone requiring a suit for interview will also be assisted in the same way.
